Falafal King - 2006.06.04 -- ***

After the drab and dreary of this morning, in Gastown, Chinatown, and downtown, this vibrant stretch of Deman street was pure joy. So many interesting restaurants I could eat here for 2 days! At least three Gelaterias led me to believe that was the latest fad of the area. After Amato, Amnon was craving some Gyros, so I said you should cast out your luck so a small hole-in-the-wall gyro place would show up in the next block. Et Voila. Right around the next light, Falafal King, with its two rollers of slow roasted meats, fit the image I had in mind perfectly. We got a wrap of chicken "gyro" and sat on the rickety wet patio chairs outside to munch it down. Nothing to write home about, except the moment was just right.

Right after we downed the wrap, we see a chocolate fondue dig advertising 5.99$ fondue pot with "premium belgium chocolate". We deliberated, but bellies could not be stretched more. Further down, an intriguing japanese tapas bar occupied a second-floor balcony stretch that overlooked the moody English Bay. And predictably a Starevilbucks at the corner of Davie punctuated this bohemian walk. The patrons sitting outside of it seemed to fit in well with the rainbow tagged theme of Deman street, as strategically sported by good number of the establishments. Later when we taxi down Davie street we'd pass what seems to be the official village, complete with more interesting looking shops.
