Amato Gelato - 2006.06.04 -- ******

We chanced by this place just as we came out of Stanley park and I was feeling warm and tired from all the walking. The smell of fresh waffle cones being toasted up overwhelmed even their three fridge cases full of gelato flavors. After much deliberation, we settled on a cone of Vanilla and Lemon Death. I judge ice cream and gelato by the standard flavor, vanilla. And this one passed with flying colours. Very creamy taste with a superbly rich mouth-feel, perfect vanilla flavors. The Lemon Death was an interesting blend of refreshing tart lemoniness and creaminess. But nothing beats the sugary crumbly crunchy waffle cone fresh off the iron, a match made in heaven with the vanilla gelato. In fact it was so good we got a second cone and a scoop of Ferrero Roche just to go with it. This one was even better as we demanded a still-warm cone, its bottom half still harboring a moist and chewy inside. This place beats even ciao bella by a good yard or two.
